I presented Brenda with a draft funding proposal. I had never done anything like this before and I knew it needed work. Brenda did an amazing job of writing a clear, succinct proposal. The application was well structured with a clear purpose and justification. Brenda was prompt and timely given the short turnaround times. While the application was not successful, it was very competitive. I have learned a lot from Brenda’s work about writing a grant application. I recommend Brenda highly and would definitely engage her in the future.

I attended Brenda’s two-day writing for publication workshop. She took us through all aspects of writing manuscripts for publication. Her presentation style was clear and easy to follow. She was able to work effectively with the participants ranging from first time to experienced writers and was able to support us all. Although I am well published, I learned a lot of handy hints from Brenda, that have assisted me in my own writing and in supporting my colleagues and students. I highly recommend Brenda’s workshops.

Dr Brenda Happell and her team worked with Health Outcomes International on a Queensland Health project entitled: Review of the alignment and transition arrangements between adolescent and adult mental health services in Queensland. The tasks involved included: project planning and establishment activities; leading literature review and analysis; contributing to the development of a review framework and the mapping exercise, development of a discussion paper, undertaking stakeholder consultations, and contributing to and reviewing draft and final review reports. Throughout this process Brenda demonstrated excellent skills in all aspects of the project. She was diligent and flexible in approach and all deadlines were met. On completion of the review she and her team published the literature review in an international peer-reviewed journal with a consultant from Health Outcomes International. We were very happy with Brenda’s work and would confidently engage her again. She is highly recommended.

Dr Happell came to Dublin city University to run a two day writing for publication workshop. The workshop took students through all stages of the writing and publication process. Participants brought a draft paper to prepare it for publication. The workshop addressed all components of the paper from abstract to conclusions, ensuring a clear and logical argument, and editing the final version before submission. Brenda also demystified the production process itself. She provided support and encouragement to participants with very different levels of writing expertise. All participants described the workshop as very constructive. They learnt to work with their own style and had gained confidence in writing. Brenda also ran individual sessions which further supported their productivity. Most participants did complete and submit their manuscript and many have published further since. We had arranged to have Brenda back which was unfortunately cut short because of Covid. We would be very keen to have her back in the future, funding permitting.

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health engaged Dr Brenda Happell to conduct two projects. The project required a literature review, interviewing key stakeholders, data analysis, and writing the final report, including clear recommendations for implementation as relevant. Her work is rigorous and extremely high-quality. Brenda’s work was completed on time and on budget and she was completely professional at all times.

Dr Brenda Happell was contracted to conduct a series of workshops on writing for publication, developing a strategic approach to research, and making the most of higher degree studies. Her workshops were well prepared, her delivery style was engaging and the impact on participants was notable. Following Brenda’s workshop several staff became more focused and better organised in relation to publications and research activities. Brenda also held one-to-one sessions with academic staff to develop a working timetable for these activities that reflected their workloads and other life commitments. Given such positive outcomes, we have engaged Brenda since and will continue to, if funding permits. I have no hesitation in recommending Brenda for workshops and individual coaching sessions.
